Palm Desert’s Community Gardens provide residents with an opportunity to learn the joys and benefits of gardening. They are a place to share gardening experiences, make new friends, gather advice, and learn. The Community Gardens are open to all Palm Desert residents and business owners, whether they are novices or master gardeners.
Palm Desert has five community gardens. Four are located on the west side of San Pablo Avenue, between Fred Waring Drive and Highway 111 (one of these gardens is closed for renovations). The fifth garden is located in Freedom Park at the south-east corner of Liberty Drive and Country Club Drive west of Washington Street.
You can sign up for a Community Garden by completing this agreement. Fees (listed below) cover the cost of the plot, amenities, use of utilities and facilities (water, restrooms, etc.). Plots are rented for a 10-month period from October 1 thru July 31. Gardens are closed between August 1 and September 30 for maintenance and repairs. Plots are rented for a one (1) year period beginning October 1 thru September 30. Gardens are closed intermittently for maintenance and repairs in late summer. This season, 2016-2017, the Catalina garden is closed for a complete renovation of the garden plots.

To encourage communication between City staff and community gardeners, the City has installed bulletin boards in all the gardens. These bulletin boards will provide information about gardening events and classes as well as helpful tips on related topics. Community gardeners are also encouraged to post their own gardening tips.
Community Gardens are a fun way to explore the excitement of growing your own veggies and flowers.
