The Palm Desert Youth Committee was formed in 2002 to provide the community's young people with an opportunity to become formally involved in an advisory capacity to the City Council.

Each year students ranging in age from 13-18 submit applications to the City. The Palm Desert City Council reviews the applications and selects each year's participants. Youth Committee members serve one-year terms.

Members plan and carry out service activities within the community involving seniors, youth, and various non-profit organizations. In addition, Youth Committee members innovatively address a variety of issues that affect the public and offer City Council a youth perspective in the areas of:

  • Bullying
  • Cultural Outreach
  • Education
  • Environmental Sustainability
  • Historical Preservation
  • Legislation
  • Public Safety
  • Recreational Facilities and Programs
  • Substance Abuse
  • Transportation

The Youth Committee meets on the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Administrative Conference Room located at Palm Desert City Hall, 73510 Fred Waring Drive. Click here for meeting dates and agendas.

Serving on the Youth Committee is a great opportunity for students to learn more about government and leadership. To request an application, or for more information on this program, please call (760) 346-0611, ext. 664 or contact us.
