Experience "Take Me Home Huey" at Freedom Park
Mixed Media Artwork on Display December 1 - 3
The public is invited to experience Steve Maloney’s mixed-media artwork "Take Me Home Huey" at Freedom Park. Created from a U.S. Army Huey helicopter that served as an air ambulance during the Vietnam War and was shot down in 1969, a 47-foot-long sculpture is accompanied by a commissioned song, a documentary film, an exhibition (on display Friday, December 1 through Sunday, December 3), and educational website. Together, the components create a powerful message of healing.
Saturday’s event include an afternoon gathering featuring kid's activities and representatives of local veteran’s organizations followed by a screening of the documentary from 5 to 7 p.m. at Freedom Park.
Parents are cautioned as the film contains graphic war images that could disturb younger and sensitive viewers.
"Take Me Home Huey" is part of First Weekend Palm Desert. Taking place every first weekend of the month, November through May, the public is invited to discover a celebration of world-class arts and entertainment in Palm Desert, from guided art tours and musical theater, to classic cars and concerts.
