City Recognizes National Building Safety Month

Each Week in May Celebrates a Different Theme

Post Date:05/03/2017 12:00 PM
The City of Palm Desert will recognize the importance of Building Safety throughout May 2017 as it celebrates National Building Safety Month.

The annual event, a month-long celebration of all aspects of building safety, helps families, employers, and leaders understand and appreciate the best practices that keep the places where we live, work and play, safe. The Palm Desert City Council declared May 2017 as “Building Safety Month” at its April 27 meeting.

The theme for this year’s celebration is Code Officials — Partners in Community Safety and Economic Growth. All U.S. communities rely on building codes to protect their citizens from disasters such as fires, storms, and structural collapse. Model building codes provide society's best way to protect homes, offices, schools, manufacturing facilities, stores, and entertainment venues. Weekly themes for this year’s Building Safety Month include:

• May 1 – 7: Mentoring the Next Generation of Building Professionals
• May 8 – 14: Building Design Solutions for All Ages
• May 15 – 21: Manage the Damage – Preparing for Natural Disasters
• May 22 – 28: Investing in Technology for Safety, Energy & Water Efficiency

Throughout May, Palm Desert’s Building & Safety Department staff will be answering questions and providing informational handouts as well as activity books for the kids. The public is encouraged to stop by and learn more about the important work that Palm Desert’s Building & Safety professionals perform on a daily basis.
